This weekend I traveled to Salem for Oregon School for the Deaf Grand re-Opening of The Nightmare Factory. They had just received a make over fromExtreme Makeover-Home Edition, with special touches from Rob Zombie. The TV show will be aired October 31st.All I can say about The Nightmare Factory’s new look is WOW. The sets were great, perfect lighting and brilliant sound FX. The front queue area was “Disney” quality and had a live video from inside the haunt. But even after saying all that, it was the energy of the actors that really made it for me. After leaving Salem I sped to Portland to hit more haunts. The 13th Door in Beaverton has old school haunt fun that I love so much. Present were great props, live actors, gore, FX and Bloody fun. Thanks Raymond for taking the time to talk with me, I’ll see you in Kansas City.Saturday night brought me to Frighttown & Scream at the Beach. Both are well established, long running haunts that do the job right. Plenty of eye candy, well placed props and actors with a sense of timing that you can’t get with electronics. I especially like Baron von Goolo’s outlook on acting, “I tell my monsters if you can’t scare them, make them laugh. And if that fails, gross them out”. I tried to talk more with Henry after going through Wonderland, but you were very busy with patrons and after groping that creature in the rabbit hole I though leaving was in my best interest.
