Sunday night, I decided to stop by Freighthouse Square to see if Black Lake Asylum was haunting this year. Their website had changed and I could not get an answer from anyone; but upon arriving I saw that it was indeed open!

I walk into the entrance where I lady was peddling her merchandise. I ask here where the haunt was, and she informed me to follow the path inside. I did think it odd that there was no one greeting me, taking tickets nor directing me inside, but hey- I’m the adventurous type!

As I wandered through the haunt I encounter a few residents, but oddly enough no one interacted with me. I was able to make my way through ¾ of the haunt before I found out the haunt was on ‘house break’ and not open at the moment! After visiting with Lugh & the staff, I re-entered the haunt and the show began.

The actors were in great form, never breaking character while interacting with me and the props. The sets were nicely designed, but dimly lit and there was a noticeable lack of ambient sound in the back of the haunt.

Being opening weekend, there are always going to be bugs to work out, and this haunt learned a lesson in staffing its front entrance at all times.

In 2011, I worked for the Black Lake Asylum in Frieghthouse Square. It was great. We got costuming, professional makeup, and all my fellow actors were friendly and great to work with. It was a good deal just for volunteering.
But I asked them if they could email me proof of volunteer hours, and they never did. So, I was wondering if you all kept a record of who worked there.
If anyone could help with that, please contact me at

I am extremely impressed along with your writing talents and also with the structure to your weblog. Is that this a paid theme or did you modify it your self? Anyway stay up the nice high quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one these days..
